William V. Bannasch “Billy B”, age 78, of Green Lake, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024
at the VA Hospital in Madison. Bill was born on November 8, 1945, in Detroit, MI; the son of
Gilbert and Lucille (Schloff) Bannasch. He graduated from Edwin Denby High School in Detroit,
MI; Class of 1963.
Bill worked at General Motors in Detroit, MI as a Graphic Designer following high school. He
then served his country in the US Army from September 8, 1965 to September 7, 1971. He
served in Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry Division and received the National Defense Service
Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service
Stars. He retired from General Motors in 2005.
Bill was a member of the Green Lake American Legion Willis-Chapel Unit 306. He was a member
of the Gold Wing Road Riders Motorcycle club and received the Motorist Awareness
Coordinator of the Year Award. He loved playing the piano, drawing, and riding his motorcycle
all over the United States and Canada with his wife.
Bill is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mervi; children: Gina (Carol Sobolewski) Bannasch, Brian
(Jennifer) Bannasch; and Melanie Breault; grandchildren: Angelina and Christina Bannasch; and
Hudson and Eli Breault; brother: Kenny Bannasch; other relatives and dear friends. He is further
survived by his extended family: the Vilkkila family; the Nurmi family of Michigan, Boos family,
and Amelia Tennant.
Full Military Honors for Bill will be held at 12:00pm on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at the Willis-Chapel American Legion Post 306. Family and friends may come to the legion hall on Sunday, September 1, 2024 at 11:00am. A Celebration of Life will follow the Full Military Honors until 3:00pm.
