Richard Scharschmidt Obituary

Richard Scharschmidt aka “King Richard”, age 97, Green Lake, returned to his heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah, WI. Rich was born on October 2, 1926, on the family farm in Oakfield, WI; the son of Felix Sr. and Elsie (Grams) Scharschmidt. He was the fifth of eight children. At the age of 13, his family moved to Markesan, WI where he attended and graduated high school in 1943. He was united in marriage to Vicki L. Conlon on January 1, 2001.

Rich, along with his brother, took over the family farm in 1972, and enjoyed dairy farming until retirement. He competed and won many tractor pulls throughout the years with his beloved 1850 Oliver tractor. Rich enjoyed many sports including bowling, shooting pool, snowmobiling, riding his 4-wheeler and hunting later in life. He bowled for most of his life, participating in state tournaments with friends. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Sheepshead, traveling, and going out to eat. He was known for his joke telling abilities, infectious smile, and gentle ways. He had friends everywhere and made new ones every day.

Rich is survived by his loving wife, Vicki, of Green Lake, WI; children: Tery (Lita) Scharschmidt; Amy (Doug) Pamenter; and James (Mary) Scharschmidt, all of Markesan, WI; step-children: Patrick (Tami) Conlon; Rebecca (Ricardo) Leon; Jillian Vessell, all of Ripon, WI and Jen (Tony) Sadlon of Pardeeville, WI; grandchildren: Andrew (Sara) Scharschmidt, Eric (fiancé Josie Bednarek) Pamenter, Taylor Scharschmidt, Brendan (Ashley) Conlon, Janice (Caleb) Emmer, Evan Conlon, Spencer Conlon, Victoria Segura, Rafael and Rosa Segura, Ariana Leon, Arturo Leon, Madison Conlon, Tabatha Conlon, William Vessell III, Owen Sadlon, and Emerson Sadlon; great-grandchildren; Allison Scharschmidt, Eli Scharschmidt, Connor Sparks-Conlon, Ashlyn Conlon, Ryker Conlon, Alexandria Gover, Jameson Segura, Daxton Segura, Bryce Segura, Geovani Leon-Sanders; a brother, John (Judy) Scharschmidt of Markesan, WI; sisters: Betty Warnke of Ripon, WI and Fran Kahl of Baraboo, WI; sisters-in-law, Marian Nielson, of Avon Park, FL; Katie (Bob) Hoersch, of Appleton, WI; Jean (Mark) Heling, of Appleton, WI, Virginia Scharschmidt of West Bend, WI; brother-in-law, James (Marie) Desens, of Appleton; the mother of Rich’s children, Lois Scharschmidt; along with many other relatives and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Marie (Bill) Wepner, and Felicia (Willard) Marquart; and brothers: Felix Jr. (Dolores) Scharschmidt, and Rudy Scharschmidt; Mother and father-in-law: Victor and Harriet Desens and brothers-in-law: Gary Nielson, Hazen Kahl and Gordon Warnke.

A memorial service for Rich will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, June 6 at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ripon, WI with Rev. Dr. Heather Brewer officiating. Family and friends may visit the church on Thursday June 6 from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.
