Randy A. Zabel, age 59, of Brandon, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at his home with family by his side following a short bout of metastatic cancer. Randy was born in Ripon on August 4, 1964; the son of Eugene and Mayme (Brown) Zabel. He graduated from Ripon High School. He then worked at Campus Theater as a doorman, and then drove truck. He grew up in the Town of Metomen and enjoyed being outside.
Randy worked for the Town of Metomen as Maintenance Supervisor for 30+ years doing snowplowing, and roadside cleanups following storms. He was dedicated to the township for anything they needed to keep the township safe; he was always willing to assist. Along with working for the Town of Metomen, he was a forklift operator at Ripon Community Printers, now known as Walsworth, for the last 27 years.
In May 1989, he married the love of his life, Sue Docter. She preceded him in death in 2021. Randy was loved by all who knew him. He had a very calm demeanor about him, this came to him naturally. If you knew Randy, you knew he was a true outdoorsman. He lived his life outside. When he was not working, he loved to go bow and gun hunting for Deer, Bear, Duck, Turkey, Coyote, and Squirrels which were mostly at his sister’s house. He was also an avid fisherman. He enjoyed taking trips to Lake Erie every Spring for Walleye, along with fishing for hours out on the local lakes. The family benefited from his fishing excursions with many Fish Fry’s. He loved going “up North” to his brother’s cabin and riding the trails on his UTV and snowmobiling. You will find his love for the outdoors in his home with many mounted animals, including bears, a badger, turkeys, duck, fish, pheasants, and many deer.
Randy is survived by his 3 siblings: Sheila Wyer of Brandon; Anita Hilt of Ripon; and Mark (Ann) Zabel of Brandon; nieces and nephews: Christopher (Amanda) Swaw-Wyer, Rachel Wyer, Erika (Jason) Kaatz; great nieces and nephews: Juniper Swaw-Wyer, Sawyer Slate, Jack, Britney and Evan Kaatz; childhood friend and cousin (like a brother), Harold (Dawn) Brown; numerous cousins, the Docter family, other relatives and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents; and brothers in law: Sean Wyer and Darwin Hilt Jr.
Visitation for Randy will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at Divine Passage Funeral Home, 175 N Douglas Street, Ripon. In honor of Randy’s love for the outdoors, feel free to wear Camo attire.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Divine Passage Funeral Home. Family and friends may visit from 10:00AM until the time of the services. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Ripon. Divine Passage Funeral Home in Ripon is serving the Zabel family.
