Patricia M. Smith, age 72, of Green Lake, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 in her home. She was born on August 29, 1940 in Preston County, West Virginia, the daughter of Sylvester "Chief" and Maxine (Nee Griffith) Krupinski. Pat was united in marriage to Jack Smith in Terra Alta, West Virginia on July 7, 1962. Pat graduated college Summa Cum Laude from Fairmont State University. She then became a High School Social Studies teacher and drama coach before becoming a fabulous housewife, mother, grandmother and active member of the community. She was a talented musician and singer, leading a jazz trio in her college years followed by choir member for the Green Lake Federated Church. Pat formerly served on the Green Lake School Board and was a member of the Dartford Educational Club. She was an avid watercolor hobbyist, home decorator, collector, and hosted many themed parties with her enormous network of friends. She loved nature, gardening, football and being with her beloved cats Scottie and Max.
Pat is survived by her son Scott Smith of New Glarus, WI; daughters: Sherry Smith of New York, NY and Laura Wallenfang of Middleton, WI; sons-in-law Keith Peterson of New Glarus, WI and Kevin Wallenfang of Middleton, WI; grandchildren Heidi and Danielle Wallenfang; sisters Margaret Moore of Bridgeport, WV; Christine Ruppenthal of Bruceton Mills, WV and Susan Ice of Martinsburg, WV; other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jack Smith in 1986, and her companion Alex Schmidt in 2006.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at the Green Lake Federated Church at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 19, with Rev. Karen Gygax-Rodriguez officiating. Following the Memorial Service will be an Open House at Pat's home in Green Lake.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, aids, neighbors, friends, and family for their care and compassion during her journey. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter, The Green Lake Federated Church, or the American Cancer Society.
