Kathryn Beadle Obituary

Kathryn Rose Beadle passed away peacefully February 28th at Markesan Resident Home, in Markesan, WI at the age of 88.

She grew up in Galesville, WI, and was the youngest of four children. Her parents, Orlo and Beulah Beadle, were both teachers. They instilled in all their children the importance of learning, deep connection with family and commitment to service.

Kathy graduated with an undergraduate degree in Speech Language Pathology with honors from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1959.  She continued her education attending a master program at the University of Hawaii, Manoa.  During that time, she worked in the Hawaiian school system helping children with speech impediments, graduating in 1961.  Kathy then made a very difficult decision to move away from the Islands when she was offered a job at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital.  A few years later she took a teaching position at Stanford University and moved to California.  Kathy received her doctorate from Stanford University in 1970.  In 1977 she became the Director of the Stanford Speech and Language Clinic.  She was an expert in childhood language disorders and served as the editor and author of a professional journal issue regarding language disorders in children.  In 1980 she started her own clinic, Mid Peninsula Speech and Language.  Her passion was training therapists and working with patients, retiring in 2006.

Travel was a major interest for Kathy.  She has lived in some amazing places including a tree house in Ka'a'awa, Hawaii, Central Park Brownstones, New York City, a lake home in Green Lake, WI and her last residence an Eichler home with a pool in Palo Alto, CA.  She has traveled the world including a very special trip with her niece Pam Beadle to Egypt.

Kathy is predeceased by her parents; brother’s David Beadle, J.L. Beadle and wife, Elaine; her sister, Mary Ewing, and husband Bill.  She is survived by her special friend and business partner Donna Dagenais, nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren.  She will always be remembered for her strength, biting wit, and random surprise gifts when you least expected them.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Markesan Residents home.  Your patience, dedication, compassion, and tireless care brought dignity to Kathy’s final days.

Kathy was cremated at Divine Passage Funeral Home, in Ripon, WI. A celebration of life to be held this summer. Please contact her niece Beth Ewing for details (greenlakelady@yahoo.com)
