Jennings "Tully" Massery Obituary

Jennings L. “Tully” Massery, age 103, of Ripon, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at ABridge Care Cottages of Ripon. Tully was born on May 28, 1918, near Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Clarence and Rose (Ardiana) Massery. He earned his life-long nickname “Tully” at the age of 9 by selling the local newspaper in PA.

Tully served his country in the US Army from 1942 to 1945 during WWII. While stationed on the East Coast, he was united in marriage to Mary Kohler on July 13, 1942. She preceded him in death on April 29, 1960. Tully’s second wife was Babs Wardlow of Davenport, IA.  They were married in July of 1970, until Bab’s death on April 26, 2003.

Tully was an Ammunition Inspector and then a Weapons Instructor as a Civil Service employee. He was proud to travel on the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington DC at age 95. Tully learned how to roller-skate at the age of 5 at a local park and enjoyed roller-skating for 81 years until “the skates got too heavy”. No longer skating, he then loved dancing. He was a devoted lifelong Catholic and enjoyed visits from the Hospice Chaplain.

Tully is survived by his daughter, Maxine (Gary) Smith of Green Lake, WI, son, Mark (Mary) Massery of Glenview, IL; his step-son, Tim Wardlow; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Clarence Massery Jr. of Belle Vernon, PA; other relatives and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; wife, Babs; son, William Massery; daughter, Judy Carter; sister, Delores Williams; and brothers, Russell Massery and Jim Massery.

Per the wishes of the family, interment will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, IL, with military honors, at a later date. Divine Passage Funeral Home in Ripon is proudly serving the Massery family during this difficult time. Divinepassagefunerals.com
