Harriet Wolk Obituary

Our mother, Harriet (Albert) Wolk, age 95, of Green Lake, WI, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026 at The Courtyard in Oshkosh, WI with her family by her side. Harriet was born on July 10, 1930 on a farm near Seymour, WI to Harvey and Gertrude (Krause) Albert. Harriet attended the Plainview School, a one room schoolhouse, and graduated from Seymour High School in 1948. On July 22, 1950, Harriet married Arthur D. Wolk. He predeceased her on June 8, 2016. After a brief tour of duty at Camp Pendleton, California during the Korean Conflict, they returned to Seymour and resided there until 1966.

In 1966, Harriet and Art purchased a grocery store in Green Lake, Wisconsin and moved there. “Art’s Park ‘N’ Shop” was the family business until 1983. Our parents then “retired” to golf, bowling, travel, part-time work and community activities. They had full lives.

Our mother was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 70 years. First, in Seymour (the post is named in part after her uncle, Robert Krause, who was killed in France during WWI) and then at Post 306 in Green Lake. In addition, she was active in the Green Lake community. She was a genealogist- member of the Dartford Historical Society, the Green Lake Business & Professional Woman’s Club, Senior Citizen Civic Center of Green Lake, and the Happy Hearth Homemakers Club. Harriet also enjoyed bowling and golf.

Our mother’s true passion, though, was her genealogy research. She and 3 of her friends made annual trips to Salt Lake City to do research at the Church of the Latter-Day Saints (LDS) even after many of the records were made available online. As a genealogist, she was an active member of Pommerscher Verein Freistadt, The Pomeranian Society of Freistadt, and a member of the Luxembourg American Cultural Society.

And, of course, an inspired genealogist must travel to verify her research. This verification process required trips to Germany, Luxembourg, Ukraine and Poland.  As we still have relatives in Berlin, Germany, several trips were made to visit them and collect information about the family that did not emigrate to the United States. In addition, she was able to travel to Venezuela, Australia, the Oregon Trail, and other locations in the United States.

Harriet is survived by her daughters, Christine and Marie; her sister-in-law, Jean (late Harvey Jr. “Bud”) Albert; her nieces and nephews, Harvey, Susan (Russ), Cherie (John), Eldon (Tina), Trudy (Rob), Summer (Andy), Julie (Sam) and Brian (Erica); many grand-nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings, Bernadine, Harvey Jr. “Bud” (Jean), Pearl, and Eldon and many dear friends.

A celebration of life for Harriet will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Divine Passage Funeral Home in Ripon. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be held in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Seymour, WI at a later date.
