Alfred August Zabel

Alfred August Zabel, age 96, formerly of Fairwater, passed away on July 18, 2014 at Kindred Hearts in Green Lake with his family by his side. He was born on October 18, 1917 in Green Lake County, the son of August and Jennie (Daane) Zabel. He was united in marriage to Edna Kubehl on September 24, 1944 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater, the church where they have been life-long members. Alfred's faith in Christ helped him to face all of the joys, sorrows and challenges in his life. He was a member of the church choir, served as church President Council and was a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. He served on the Township of Metomen Board for 8 years and was a member of the Harmony Kings Barbershop for over 20 years. Alfred was a life-long farmer on his own farms in the Fairwater area. He loved listening to music with his wife Edna, and enjoyed playing his guitar and harmonica at the same time.

Alfred is survived by his two daughters, Karen (Edward) Ellsworth of Ripon, Faye (John Samuelson) Zabel of Markesan; two sons, Mark (Erin) Zabel of Greeley CO, Barry (Beth) Zabel of Ripon; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; one sister Delores Austin; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Edna; two brothers, Clarence and Bernard; and two granddaughters, Danielle and Alyse Zabel.

Funeral services for Alfred will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairwater with Pastor Shari Routh officiating. Friends and family may visit at the Church on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 9:00am until the time of the services. Burial will follow at the Fairwater Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Agnesian Hospice or Zion Lutheran Church.
